Born: 1972, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Stephen Somers surrealistische Figuren kommen erschreckend real daher.

Stephen Somers surrealist explorations into psychology border uncomfortably close to reality. His grand format painting "With Possession Comes Exorcism" is both shocking and fascinating at the same time. The visitors of the Art Brandenburg in Potsdam stare transfixed in aesthetic arrest at the gigantic half-dressed man . Not all dare go too near.
Occasionally, the children must be comforted: "he only has stomach aches."

Somers in his own words: "Why do this stuff when you know it won't sell? Why not do more kids with big eyes and pets? Why not curb the blatant vulgarity in so many of the pieces? All very good questions. It's not like I'm a martyr for fine art, or somehow above prostituting myself. I have a job, I've done a ton of commercial design. It isn't some intellectual conceit that I'm daring people to figure out either. For me it's more like chasing bunnies, and teaching the cat to do tricks."
