André Demers, 1972 geboren, Montreal, Kanada.


Schon mit 22 Jahren spielte die Malerei die Hauptrolle in seinem Leben. Nach dem er ein Innenarchitektur Studium beendet hatte,
suchte er nach Wegen zur Entfaltung eigener künstlerischer Vorstellungen. Studien an einer Kunsthochschule beendete er erfolgreich mit einem Diplom.

Demers ist vielen Einflüssen nachgegangen. Surrealisten und Konstruktivisten haben ganz sicher Bedeutung für seine Entwicklung. Maßgeblich fühlt er sich mit den Künstlern der Optical Art und der Pop Art verbunden. Seine Bildkonstruktionen nennt er auch "Pop-Op Art". Unter Anwendung einer ihm eigenen Technik kreiert er lebensfrohe Bilder fröhlicher Farbvielfalt und Symbolik.

He started painting seriously at the age of 22, after having completed his studies in interior design, he realized quickly that he needed way more freedom to express himself, he then got into a fine art school where he completed successfully his degree.

Demers influences are various, the surrealist movement and the constructivism but it's with the Optical Art and also the Pop Art that he is mostly associated, that's why he calls his work Pop-Op Art. Using a unique technique he creates rich, an vibrant paintings filled with joyfull colours and intelligence.
